Overview

Key Responsibilities:
Surveillance and Safety:

Maintain constant watch over swimmers and visitors in the aquatic area.
Recognize and respond effectively to emergencies, including performing water rescues and administering first aid or CPR.
Inspect the facility and equipment to ensure safety and cleanliness, reporting any hazards to the appropriate personnel.
Rule Enforcement:

Enforce all facility rules and regulations to prevent accidents and ensure a safe environment for all patrons.
Educate patrons about the importance of water safety and appropriate behavior within the facility.
Emergency Response:

Respond quickly and effectively to any incidents, including drowning, injuries, and medical emergencies.
Use rescue techniques, equipment, and perform first aid or CPR as necessary.
Report and document all incidents according to facility protocols.
Facility Maintenance:

Assist in the maintenance and cleaning of the pool, deck, and surrounding areas.
Ensure that all rescue equipment is in good working order and readily accessible.
Perform routine checks of the pool’s chemical levels and adjust as necessary.
Customer Service:

Provide a welcoming and friendly environment for all guests.
Answer any questions or concerns from patrons about the facility or its programs.
Promote a positive image of the facility and the organization through professional and courteous interactions.
Training and Development:

Attend and participate in regular training sessions and drills to maintain and improve rescue and emergency response skills.
Stay updated on current lifeguarding techniques, water safety protocols, and first aid/CPR certifications.
Qualifications:
Certification: Current lifeguard certification from a recognized organization
First Aid/CPR: Current certification in First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
Physical Fitness: Ability to swim 500 yards continuously, tread water for 2 minutes, and perform rescues under stressful conditions.
Age Requirement: Must meet the minimum age requirement as specified by the facility or governing body.
Skills and Abilities:
Strong swimming skills and physical endurance.
Excellent observational and surveillance skills.
Ability to remain calm and act quickly in emergency situations.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to enforce rules and regulations firmly but politely.
Dependability and a strong sense of responsibility.
Working Conditions:
Work is primarily performed outdoors and involves exposure to various weather conditions.
Work may require long periods of standing, sitting, and observing the pool or aquatic area.
May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Additional Notes:
Lifeguards must adhere to the dress code and wear the appropriate uniform while on duty.
Lifeguards may be required to assist with special events and programs as needed.
