INITIATIVES FOR DEVELOPMENT AND EMPOWERMENT FOR ALL (IDEA-INTERNATIONAL) is a non-profit, non-political, non-governmental, and humanitarian organization established in 2020. As the name implies, this organization aims to take proactive initiatives to support and empower women, men, girls, and boys concerning factors that affect their physical, emotional, social, economic, and psychological or psychosocial health and well-being.

 

IDEA-INTERNATIONAL’s overarching vision is to make communities safe and healthy places to live. A key focus of the organization is to prioritize health, community health as well as reproductive health education, particularly among the most vulnerable populations. Additionally, IDEA-INTERNATIONAL is dedicated to preventing or eradicating all forms of violence against women and girls by actively working to enhance gender equality within homes and communities. IDEA international implements education programs including STEM Education for women and girls. IDEA International Nigeria is seeking a committed and experienced candidate for the position of Director of Programs.

Job Summary

The Director of Programs is directly responsible for the overall strategic programmatic planning, human resources management, program design and implementation, program support, resource mobilization and management. S/he will represent the organization at all levels and liaise with local and national authorities, UN and UN agencies, NGO, and donor agencies, to promote the organization’s programs, facilitate successful coordination of activities and ensure transparency and accountability to all stakeholders at the national, state and local levels. The Director of Programs will play a strong leadership role through a high-level strategic leadership and effective advocacy. S/he will be ultimately accountable for all aspects of the programs and projects, ensuring that organizational setup is adapted to the operational context.

Director of Programs responsibilities:

Ø  Director of Programs is responsible for researching, planning, and implementing programs that keep IDEA-International running. He/she answers all key programmatic questions and find remedies complaints.

Ø  He/she creates an environment of open communication within the organization by collaborating with other departments on decision-making responsibilities and initiating new goal-setting initiatives

Ø  Initiate and set goals for programs according to the strategic objectives of the organization

Ø  Plan the programs from start to completion involving deadlines, milestones and processes

Ø  Develop or approve budgets and operations

Ø  Devise evaluation strategies to monitor performance and determine the need for improvements

Ø  Supervise all departmental activities and make show that all departments’ heads provide daily, weekly and monthly feedback, and resolve complex problems

Ø  He or she is responsible to discover ways to enhance efficiency and productivity of procedures and people.

Ø  Apply change, risk and resource management principles when needed in all programming.

Ø  He or she ensures that tasks are carried out efficiently with quality.

Ø  He or she is responsible to read reports prepared by department’s heads to determine progress and issues and to submit all types of donor reports.

Ø  He or she ensures program operations and activities are adhered to legal guidelines and internal policies.

Ø  He or she represents IDEA-International in all governmental, NGOs, donors and key sectoral meetings.

Ø  He or she serves as the mouth piece of IDEA-International internally and externally by the permission of the country Director.

Ø  Do other works as may be assigned by the Country Director and the CEO.

 

Requirements and skills

Ø  Proven experience as program coordinator or other managerial position

Ø  Thorough understanding of project/program management techniques and methods

Ø  Excellent Knowledge of performance evaluation techniques and key metrics

Ø  Outstanding knowledge of data analysis, reporting and budgeting

Ø  Working knowledge of MS office and program management software (e.g. Basecamp, MS Project etc.)

Ø  Excellent organizational and leadership skills

Ø  An analytical mind set with great problem-solving abilities.

Ø  Excellent communication skills.

Ø  BSc/BA diploma in management or a relevant field; MSc/MA is a plus

Senior Coordination, Representation and Advocacy

Ø  Represent IDEA International in all relevant coordination meetings and with a range of stakeholders, partners, donor community and government agencies as requested and as required.

Ø  Advocate as necessary with relevant authorities, donors, and other stakeholders in support of the organization.

Human Resources Management

Ø  Contribute in recruiting/Selecting and orienting new staff if need be.

Ø  Support, coach and supervise staff to build capacity as will be required.

Ø  Develop support strategies for staff, foster teambuilding.

Ø  Provide supportive and constructive feedback, and conduct regular performance appraisals of other staff if any.

 

Security and Conduct

Ø  Ensure compliance with security protocols and policies

Ø  Consider security implications in IT and Communication

Ø  Foster a safe and supportive working environment for all staff/volunteers/partners, etc.

Ø  Contribute to the positive image and overall credibility of the organization, notably through adherence to the Code of Conduct and Ethics, including compliance with anti-harassment, safeguarding and PSEA policies as mentioned below.

 

 

Languages:

Ø  English: Fluent (oral and written).

Ø  Being able to speak and write local languages: Hausa, Kanuri, etc will be an added advantage.

 

Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse

Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within IDEA International and amongst beneficiaries served by IDEA International.

Code of Conduct

As applicable to this position, an individual must promote and encourage a culture of compliance and ethics throughout the organization and maintain a clear understanding of IDEA International’ and donor compliance and ethics standards and adheres to those standards.

If this is a supervisory position, one must set an example of ethical behaviour through one’s own conduct and oversight of the work of others; ensure that those who report to you have sufficient knowledge and resources to follow the standards outlined in the Code of Conduct & Ethics; monitor compliance of the people you supervise; enforce the Code of Conduct & Ethics and IDEA International’s policies, including the Safeguarding Policy and the Protection from Harassment, Bullying and Sexual Misconduct in the Workplace Policy, consistently and fairly; support employees who in good faith raise questions or concerns.

Safeguarding
