Job Overview
The Head of Microbiologists will lead and oversee the microbiology department within Psaltry International Limited, Ado-Awaye, Iseyin. This role involves managing microbiological testing, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, conducting research to improve product quality and processing efficiency, and leading a team of microbiologists. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in industrial microbiology, strong leadership skills, and a thorough understanding of cassava processing and its microbiological challenges.

 

Key Responsibilities
1.       Lead, mentor, and manage a team of microbiologists, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.

2.       Develop and implement departmental goals, policies, and procedures.

3.       Conduct performance evaluations and provide professional development opportunities for team members.

4.       Oversee routine microbiological testing of raw materials, intermediate products, and finished products to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.

5.       Interpret test results, identify potential microbiological hazards, and recommend corrective actions.

6.       Ensure all laboratory equipment and testing methods are maintained, calibrated, and validated.

7.       Develop and maintain a robust quality control program to ensure the safety and quality of cassava products.

8.       Collaborate with the quality assurance team to implement and monitor HACCP plans and GMP practices.

9.       Ensure compliance with local, national, and international food safety regulations and standards.

10.   Conduct and oversee research projects aimed at improving product quality, shelf-life, and processing efficiency.

11.   Stay current with advancements in microbiological research and incorporate relevant findings into the company’s processes.

12.   Develop new microbiological testing methods and protocols as needed.

13.   Work closely with other departments such as production, quality assurance, and R&D to ensure cohesive operations.

14.   Prepare and present reports on microbiological findings, trends, and recommendations to senior management.

15.   Represent the microbiology department in internal and external audits and inspections.

Qualifications
1.       BSC/ HND or Master’s degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Biotechnology, or a related field.

2.       Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial microbiology, with at least 1 year in a leadership role.

3.       Experience in the food processing industry, preferably in cassava or similar root crops.

Skills:
1.       Strong leadership and team management skills.

2.       In-depth knowledge of microbiological testing methods, food safety regulations, and quality control standards.

3.       Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

4.       Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

5.       Proficiency in using laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and other relevant software.

Other Requirements
1.       Live in Ibadan or Iseyin or a nearby city in Oyo State or willing to relocate to Iseyin/Ibadan
